  • Long-term Data Storage Threatened by Anti-Virus Scans

Over time, data stored on writable media subject to virus scans will be deleted or moved regardless of the presence of a virus. This is due to the ever-expanding definition of what is a virus and through heuristic analysis. In other words, what was not considered a virus in the past may be considered one in the future despite its legitimacy.

So what can we do about it?

One way is to routinely back-up to an optical disk or some other write-once media. However, CDFS, the file system used on CDs and DVDs allows files up to 2GB. Large files have to be kept another way. There may be hope though. As file permissions and firewalls get safer in Vista it may be possible to set aside areas on your PC that do not get virus checked.

  • Taylor vs. Yonah, not Merom! Bulldozer vs. Merom!

AMD seems to be playing catch-up with Intel. Apparently the Taylor chip is a response to Intel’s Yonah chip. The latest Intel chip, the Core 2 Duo is codenamed, Merom. This article explains AMD’s reaction to the Core 2 Duo:

    “Response to Merom

Unfortunately, AMD will not be able to immediately match the performance of Intel’s next generation Core 2 Duo mobile processor, codenamed Merom. Instead, AMD will be focusing on the mainstream market, where performance is not a major issue. AMD maintains that Turion 64 X2 will still hold advantages in platform design at a value.

According to industry insiders, AMD’s response to Merom, codenamed Bulldozer, won’t appear until 1H 2007.”

To have something to look forward to.
To find out what color her eyes are.
    My daughters to respect me.
    To be almost debt free.
    To take a warm shower.
To lay down in cold, clean sheets on a cool October night.
    To work with Derek again.
To find a diamond in my own back yard.

    To build my own car.
    To make my parents proud.
To let my wife know how much she means to me.

  • Gravity Hill?

    Where is Gravity Hill?

According to Roadside America, the gravity hill in Mooresville, Indiana is definitely on Keller Hill Road off SR42. I have been there around ten times. I will tell everyone right now that the hill is NOT marked at all. All I can say is you will just have to try the hills. It is approx. a mile in on the road. If you are going away from SR42 it is kind of down in a valley just before a rather large hill and there is a house on the left side and just some trees on the right.

  • The Art of Naming a Sandwich

When one goes to name a sandwich, they normally name it after what lies between the slices of bread rather than the bread itself. Conversely, when someone refers to a set of non-food items that resemble a sandwich pattern, the ‘sandwich’ is often named after the ‘bread’ parts. This may be because most of the time, outside of bread, similar things in life do not surround something else, but when it does, one wants to point attention to it, not what is in between and do so by naming the sandwich after the two alike peices rather than the one unique.

  • My Voice

My whole life I’ve been searching for my true singing voice. Today I found that voice and, though it was true, it did not sound good. I raised my soft pallete, removing the nasality, and pushed the air hard from my diaphragm. It hurt my lungs, my ears, and my heart. Its like when we grew up and realized all of our dreams would not come true. I want to create a masterpiece.

  • Hot Fuss

I like pulling up to red lights at the bottom of hills with my hands up as if I’m falling. Its right up there with doing the windmill on overpasses. It makes me feel weightless.

I’m listening to The Killers’ “Hot Fuss”. Song 5 is my fav so far, but they are all good. Its a band that makes me wish I still had my band as a creative outlet.
